Peacemakers

This Sun­day we will be dis­cov­er­ing what it means to be peace­maker.  What does Jesus mean by ‘Blessed are the peace­mak­ers for they will be called chil­dren of God’ (Matthew 5:9)?

Don’t let them get to you.
I under­stand what they’re try­ing to do.
We don’t need to make a scene.
Let’s try to work this through.

It’s not about which side we’re on.
Think about all that we agree upon.
They may see things dif­fer­ently;
that doesn’t mean they’re wrong.

If we let this go too far,

An open mind and soft­ened heart
is where the heal­ing starts.

We don’t want to cause a fight.
Putting them down won’t prove we’re right.
We can han­dle this with gen­tle­ness.
We can be a shin­ing light.

I believe, even­tu­ally, things are going to change.
The fear inside will be set aside and love will take its place.
Those per­ceived as ene­mies will be seen in a dif­fer­ent way.
All who strive to com­pro­mise will bring a bet­ter day.
This deficit of trust has existed long enough.
