During this podcast we struggle with the question:  How does Jesus on the cross enact atonement between humanity and God?  Answers to this question are often referred to as ‘Theories of Atonement’.

Story of God:  Cost Community is Purchased

This is the sixth message  in the ‘What’s Your Story?’ teaching series.  After God had presented the Israelite people with his code, we quickly realize how soon we cross the boundaries. This part of story tells of God’s provision for making atonement (making things right).  At God’s heart and the heart of the priestly and sacrificial system is reconciliation and restoration.

Story of God: Code — Community is Legislated
Texts: Exodus 20 and Leviticus 19

First, let me apologize for going so long. I lost track of time. Though I did go long, and it’s hard to listen to the whole thing and pay attention the whole time, I believe that there is a lot of good formational information in this next podcast.  Remember that as we go deeper in the story it’s important to remember what has been said before.  God doesn’t just fully reveal himself all at once.  He knows this is too much for us.  So he begins slowly one step at a time.  And let us remember this is a journey, a great epic adventure unfolding.

CRISIS COMMUNITY IS THREATENED

Almost every story has a villain.

Why?

This third message in “What’s Your Story?” teaching series struggles with the question of evil in our world, but tends to go deeper asking how evil got into my heart.

CREATION COMMUNITY IS CREATED

Creation — Community is Created from Benjamin Yost on Vimeo.

Everyone has a story — our life story. What we often fail to realize is that our stories only make sense in light of God’s story as the great author.

In this second message of the What’s Your Story message series, we compare two different creation narratives. The first is the Enuma Elish which is the creation narrative that would have been guiding the people of the Mesopotamium, Sumerian peoples about the time of the Exodus narratives.

The big question: Which story is forming your life? Which story would produce a better life for you and everyone else on the planet?

‘What’s Your Story?’  We all have a life story.  But what we often fail to realize is that our stories don’t fully make sense until we realize that God is telling an epic story.  A story full of adventure, sacrifice, questions and endless potential.  It’s only through God’s story that our life stories begin to make sense.
